Comprehensive Consent with Sarah Casper
What does it really mean for a child to understand that “your body is yours”? And how do we hold that value while still brushing teeth, buckling seatbelts, giving medication, and getting out the door on time?
In this session, we explored what bodily autonomy looks like in real family life. We talked about the tension between respecting children’s boundaries and meeting their health, hygiene, and safety needs. Together, we looked at the ways adults sometimes unintentionally undermine the lessons we’re trying to teach, and we practiced tools for responding differently.

Past Talks
Cyber Safety with Department of Justice
US Assistant District Attorney Megan Farrell from the Department of Justice discussed a range of topics regarding internet safety, such as internet dangers, digital footprints, cyberbullying, gaming, social media, and more. With experience in criminal cases involving children, her perspective is invaluable. She shared strategies for how parents can help their kids be safe online.
Interrupting Bias & Bullying
Building on recent 5th grade residencies, BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange teaching artist Kelindah Schuster facilitated conversations, helping us reflect on incidents where we or our children were impacted by harmful bias and modeling tools to help strengthen empathy, connections and inclusivity. Using the tools of drama, we practiced (and learned how to help our kids practice) interrupting bias and bullying and empowering our children to be upstanders.
Promoting Positive Behaviors at Home
Child Mind Institute
Caregivers often have questions about how to effectively manage challenging behaviors such as tantrums, not listening, and fighting with siblings. This workshop provided caregivers with concrete strategies to promote positive behavior at home and improve the caregiver‐child relationship. These strategies are geared toward parents of children in preschool and elementary school.

“The Talk” with Rachel Lotus
While many of us want to initiate conversations with our children about sexuality, we aren’t sure what to say, how to say it, or when to begin. In The Talk: Sex Ed 2.0, Rachel Lotus provided us with guidance on all of the above, plus actionable tools, strong evidence to support their efficacy, and a space to share concerns and get answers.
