Communications/Technology

The Communications and Technology Committee works with the Co-Chairs of Communications and Technology to ensure that important PTA and school messaging is available to parents and caregivers in multiple formats in a consistent and clear manner. It also oversees technological needs including hardware and software solutions, especially in payment platforms for our events and fundraising goals.

The Communications and Technology Committee supports the PTA in the following areas:

  • Mailchimp for PTA emails
  • Social media posts (Instagram and Facebook),
  • Event communication (flyers, banners, and digital graphics with Canva)
  • Fundraising communication by helping craft clear campaign goals consistent with the PTA mission
  • Payment and fundraising platforms like GiveSmart, Pledgestar, Stripe, and Shopify POS.
  • Website content, development, and maintenance

The Events Committee partners with the Events Co-Chairs to manage and chair PTA events throughout the school year. These volunteer-run events build community and support fundraising goals aligned with the PTA mission. Members of the Events Committee assist with one or more events during the year and work closely with the PTA’s Executive Board. The Events Committee helps support one or more of the following annual events:

  • Diversity Potluck
  • Super Sidewalk Sale
  • Holiday Hoopla

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee collaborates with the Fundraising Co-Chairs and the Vice President to plan, manage, and execute the annual fundraising campaign. Throughout the year, additional fundraising events and campaigns help close the gap between the funding provided by the DOE and the school’s actual budgetary needs. The Fundraising Committee supports in the following areas:

  • Fall Appeal
  • Sponsorship outreach and development
  • Read-A-Thon
  • Book Fair
  • Annual Gala and Auction
  • Paddlewheeler

The fundraising work done by the PTA is critical to continue delivering the PS8 educational, arts and enrichment experience our children receive.

Garden (SLT/PTA Committee)

The Garden Committee helps plan and maintain the native plant growth around the school yard and in the wooden planter boxes. Working with the PTA and inspired by classroom curricula, planter boxes are a hands-on, living classroom that allows children to see their learning come to life and also a natural way to add greenery and beauty to our school.

Kids Cre8

The Kids Cre8 Committee works with the Kids Cre8 Afterschool Chair to help ensure the continued success and growth of the Kids Cre8 program in the following areas:

  • Reviewing current club offerings to ensure quality and diversity of options
  • Assist with vendor sourcing by sharing ideas for new clubs, identifying vendors and engaging in initial conversations with potential new vendors
  • Some committee members take on a weekly volunteer role to help oversee snack distribution, assist with after club pick-up, and help the Kids Cre8 On-Site Coordinator troubleshoot any issues.

Literacy

The Literacy Committee collaborates with both the school administration and PTA on three important initiatives/events:

  • Coordination of library volunteers. The library relies upon parent volunteers to support the operational functions and needs of the library.
  • Read-A-Thon – Working closely with the PTA Executive Board Event Co-Chairs and school literacy coach and librarian, Read-A-Thon Volunteers help curate a fun and exciting Read-A-Thon that engages our children in all forms of literacy. It also serves as a fundraiser for our school.
  • Book Fair – The annual Book Fair serves as a fundraiser for our school, but also provides children a place to shop for books of their choosing. Literacy Committee volunteers support this event by managing Book Bucks collection, setting up and running the Book Fair and helping classes choose books and complete their purchases.

Merchandise

The Merch Committee works with the PTA Executive Board to develop merchandise designs, maintain and develop relationships with merchandise vendors and order and inventory to be sold both in person and online. Branded PS8 merchandise helps create community within our school and profits from sales support the fundraising efforts and goals of the PTA. Merch Volunteers help in the following areas:

  • Creating and sharing input on new merchandise designs and quantities needed
  • Assisting with merchandise inventory
  • Fulfilling online orders
  • Volunteering to help sell merchandise at pop-up events throughout the year
