Week 2 results are in! So far our students have read a total of 311,000 minutes! GO READERS!

Minutes are tallied on Friday mornings. If your child has Pledgestar page, click the “Reading Log” button next to their name to record their daily minutes. Otherwise please record minutes on the paper reading log and send to school on Fridays. Please choose one method, not both!

In addition to serving as an academic reset after the holidays, the Readathon is also an incredibly important fundraiser for our school. This is one of several community fundraising events the PTA holds throughout the school year to help pay for everything from full-time specialty teachers and teaching assistants to classroom supplies and our Bridges Math Curriculum. Essentials, not extras. You can read more about what the PTA fundraises for HERE

Parents, family, friends and local businesses (i.e., do you get your morning coffee at the same place every day? possible sponsor?) can sponsor a child either per minute or as a fixed donation. Sponsors can make a one-time donation HERE or send a check to PTA of PS8, Attn: Readathon, 37 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Checks should be made payable to PTA of PS8.

Many companies support causes that are important to their employees by matching their charitable contributions. Please check if your employer has a matching gift program – the impact of your donation could be doubled or even tripled!

The Book Swap has been extended to this Friday, January 24th. Come by the auditorium before or after school (8-8:20 AM / 2:30-5 PM) to find “new” books to love. Remaining books will be donated to Brooklyn Book Bodega at the end of the Book Swap.

Volunteers are needed. Please sign up here!

Thanks for your support of the Readathon and our PS8 readers!
