Kids Cre8 FAQs

1. How will my child get to their club when the school day ends?

At dismissal time, your child’s teacher will bring them to the auditorium, where they will sit with other students in the club. From there, the club’s teacher will pick them up and bring them to the club’s location.

2. Where should I pick up my child?

Dismissal for clubs that end at 4:40 is in the auditorium. The club’s teacher will bring them to the auditorium at that time, and you can meet them there.

Clubs that end at 3:40 or 4:00 dismiss at the classroom where the club is held. Mr. Maxcy, Director of Kids Cre8, will be available at that time during the first week to tell you where to go.

3. Who runs Kids Cre8?

Kids Cre8 is a team effort between Mr. Maxcy, Director, and the PTA After-school Co-VPs, Emily Everhart and Amanda Shinall. PS8 teachers along with some outside vendors run the various clubs.

4. Can I file an FSA claim for Kids Cre8?

Some parents have asked for additional documentation in order to claim payments for the Kids Cre8 after-school program as expenses that are reimbursable by the IRS Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for Child and Dependent Care Expenses. The IRS guidelines, as we interpret them, are not entirely clear on whether these payments for after school enrichment qualify as reimbursable expenses. While your email receipt and confirmation contains the information you need to file a claim, neither PS 8 nor the PTA take any responsibility for any claims that the IRS or other tax authorities deem illegitimate. As stated in our Terms and Conditions, any parents making FSA claims shall take full responsibility for the claims.

5. Can you provide me with a receipt so I can file an FSA claim?

The email confirmation/receipt you receive after registering your child contains the information you need to file a claim.

6. Why don’t you offer clubs on Mondays and Tuesdays?

The school facility is needed for other purposes on Mondays and Tuesdays, rendering the classrooms unavailable. However, the other after-school programs at PS8 (Kids Orbit and YMCA) offer childcare five days a week should you need care on Mondays and Tuesdays.

7. My child attends another after-school program at PS8 (either Kids Orbit or YMCA). Can they still sign up for a club?

Yes! If your child would like to participate in a club, they will go to the club first (see answer to Question 1 above). When the club is over, they will be brought to the auditorium, where counselors from the other program will pick them up and take them to their activity.

8. What if I need to get in touch with someone before or during the club session?

For things like early pickup, change of person picking up, absence, etc., please email Mr. Maxcy at directorkidscre8@gmail.com. For less urgent matters, you can email the Kids Cre8 team at kids-cre8@ps8brooklyn.org.
