It’s easy to do — 25 minutes walked = one mile.
Mighty Milers is a running program for kids of all fitness levels from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. It’s designed to get kids moving and prevent obesity and illness. Participation in Mighty Milers helps kids build their self-esteem, and learn to make and reach personal goals.
Over the course of a program cycle, children in Mighty Milers set goals to run and/or walk a certain distance and earn rewards for reaching milestones along the way. Students will gain miles at school for gym, hallway walking and recess. You can also log how many miles your child is able to walk or run at home using this simple form.
Mr. Maxcy will track the miles your child completes in gym class, walking around the school and at recess. Do not log miles for the school day. You may log miles for after school programs. Families can add to their child’s mileage by keeping track at home and completing the form below. Many kids participate in a variety of sports, gymnastic classes and dance classes after school. These workouts can be intense. We want to encourage and reward their efforts. Add 1 mile every time your child completes a practice/game/performance that has an intense workout for at least a hour. Biking and other exercises on wheels are encouraged, but you must ride for at least 25 minutes to add a mile. Riding a bike for a mile is not the same as running or walking a mile.
