Sjene Kendrick has an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in American Sign Language from the University of Rochester. She holds a master’s degree in Inclusive Education from Nazareth University. Before joining PS8 in 2008, Sjene worked in upstate New York as a paraprofessional, attending to students with autism and other disabilities.
Sjene most enjoys seeing her students have “ah-ha!” moments when their eyes light up as they grasp a concept for the first time. She also loves the end of a school year when she can look back and see how far her students have come. “It’s amazing the progress in just ten months,” she says. Teaching at PS8 has been a particular joy because “the staff is so helpful and considerate,” she says. “We are all out to help each other.”
Sjene is an avid athlete who enjoys playing flag football and softball. One of her many softball teams even competed for a national championship in Philadelphia in 2011. Sjene also volunteers as a basketball coach for the Brooklyn Youth Association.
