School Psychologist
At PS 8 since 2015

Kristin Kmiotek is PS 8’s School Psychologist and part of the School-Based Support Team (SBST). Ms. Kmiotek conducts assessments that determine eligibility for educational support services and plays a critical role in creating Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs. She achieved a Finance degree for her undergraduate work, which led to her employment on the trading floor with various Wall Street firms over the course of 12 years. Acting on a long-standing desire to work with children and a life-long aspiration, Ms. Kmiotek left Wall Street to pursue a graduate degree in School Psychology at Touro College in Manhattan.
Prior to joining PS 8, Ms. Kmiotek worked at Lawrence Middle School and Oceanside High School on Long Island. Ms. Kmiotek also worked at an after-school Autism program at Oceanside High School which focused on Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques. Prior to this, she was working for a non-profit firm which focused on helping children with special needs and socio-economic disadvantages. In this role, Ms. Kmiotek visited homes of children and created Behavioral Intervention Plans to assist families with behavioral management within the home. She transitioned to the Department of Education and joined PS 8 in January of 2015.
On a personal note, Ms. Kmiotek enjoys taking Creative Writing classes in her free time. She is a tremendous animal lover and dreams to live on a farm or ranch one day.
