Julia Munar has been teaching Visual Arts at the elementary level since 2007. She taught in public schools in Chicago for 6 years before teaching in New York City. Julia joined PS 8 in 2015. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a degree in Art Education as well as a Master’s degree in Special Education from Ohio University.
Julia describes her art class as a place where students develop as artists, creative thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers. She plans art experiences that provides opportunities for students to learn about their art materials though choice and experimentation. She believes that the thought process and decision making behind creating art is as important as the end product. She encourages her students to explore their own ideas and interests in their art and create art of which they feel proud.
Julia is an alumnus of the Art21 Educators program. She is also an active member of the National Art Education Association and has presented on teaching with contemporary art at the National Art Education Association Conference since 2012.
