New Kindergarten Students
Kindergarten offer letters for the 2017-18 school year were sent to families who applied by the January 13 deadline.
Your offer letter will list the school where your child will go to kindergarten. If you receive an offer to PS 8, accept your offer by pre-registering in person with your child — visit the PS 8 main office between 9am and 12pm from Monday to Friday by Friday, April 7th. The DOE requires the following documentation:
- Child’s birth certificate, passport, or record of baptism which includes the date of birth, or other official document of age (See Chancellor’s Regulation A-101 for documents accepted for proof of age)
- Immunization records
- Latest report card/transcript (if available)
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or 504 Accommodation Plan (if applicable and available)
- Proof of address validated by two documents containing the address of residence. Click HERE for the complete list.
New First through Fifth Grade Students
New students who live in PS 8’s zoned neighborhood and will be in first through fifth grades for the 2017-18 school year should come to the lower school office and and speak to Ms. Cloud to register. Bring documentation of the student’s age and proof of residence when you come to pre-register. Click here for a list of required documentation.

As a magnet school, enrollment is not limited to traditional zoning constraints; however, seats are given to zoned students first. All children living outside the zone, including siblings of current non-zoned students, must fill out a magnet application form, available in the main office. Decisions about magnet school placement are made by lottery when spaces are available. Given the current enrollment, few magnet seats have been allotted the past few years.
New Middle School Students
All fifth graders who have submitted the Middle School Application in fall will receive notification letters in April, which will have your middle school match for next September.
If you just moved to New York City and are not yet enrolled at a school for the 2016-2017 school year, learn how to enroll on the New Students page.
