Our little garden has been crawling with activity. Early this spring Ms. Kozeta’s kindergarten class was gifted caterpillars by a parent. The kids had so much fun watching the little creatures transform. Once the weather was warm enough the students ventured into our garden for a release party to bid their fluttery friends farewell.
Ms Smith, Ms Schultz and Mr Jansen’s classes volunteered to house and tend to an indoor mini composter. Our Garden Committee received a mini grant from Citizens Committee of NYC and Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board and used it to purchase two mini composers and “worm factory” composters. All students learned about the process of composting and celebrated this month with return-to-garden celebrations (or, in Ms Smith’s class’s case: A worm release party!). It’s easy to see why our lush garden is a nominee for Greenest Block in Brooklyn.
