What is Reading? Kindergarten through 5th Grade

Join PS 8 staff developers Melissa Browning and Sandy Long for an interactive hands-on workshop devoted to unpacking “reading” in an elementary classroom. We will discuss the “nuts and bolts” of reading instruction at PS 8 while highlighting the skills necessary to be engaged reader for a lifetime!

Are you curious about the new New York State Science Standards? Wondering what science looks and sounds like in an elementary classroom? Come participate in a hands on exploration of “3 Dimensional Learning” in science instruction with staff developer Sandy Long and First Grade Teacher Dana Smith. Moving from Emergent to Conventional Reading: A Workshop for Kindergarten Parents and Guardians

As we move closer to 2019, Kindergarten children will begin to bring home “book baggies” to read, explore, share and talk about texts! This morning workshop will provide you with information about reading acquisition, PS 8’s reading instruction philosophy, and how to support your child at home. The workshop will be led by Anne Lee, Kindergarten Teacher and Sandy Long, Lower Grade Staff Developer. Register HERE.
In 2019 we will hold two more workshops, one will focus on Math and one will focus on Writing, TBA
