Although there are some things the PTA cannot pay for – like classroom teachers’ salaries – the PTA raises funds to pay for the things we can pay for:
- Professional development for teachers
- Substitute teachers
- Capital improvements
- Enrichment
- PS 8 clubs and teams
- Classroom and office supplies
About 45 percent of the PTA funds raised come from the annual appeal; the remainder comes from events like the Read-a-thon, the Spring Auction, and the Paddlewheeler; apparel sales, and other small events. Many local and national vendors support PS 8 by providing a portion of proceeds from sales as a donation to the school, including Mini Max, Heights Kids, ModuleR, City Chemist, Target, and Amazon (find out more by clicking on the links).
