5th Grade
At PS 8 since 2010
Ms. Anderson found her calling while working with children as Manager of School Outreach for the American Diabetes Association in New Jersey. She enrolled in Monmouth University, where she built on her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Journalism from Pennsylvania State University with a Master’s degree in Special Education, and began teaching in New Jersey. Three years later, she joined Melissa Browning in PS 8’s 5th Grade Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) class.
What Ms. Anderson enjoys most about teaching is the stories: the stories she reads in class, the stories her students write, and, most of all, the stories she and her students create together. She loves the “warm, welcoming and diverse” PS 8 community and finds inspiration from her ICT co-teacher, Ms. Browning. “We learn so much from each other every day,” Ms. Anderson says.
When not in her classroom, Ms. Anderson is often experimenting in the kitchen: baking is not just a hobby, she says, it’s “a bit of an obsession.” She also enjoys spending time on the beach.
