1st Grade
At PS 8 since 2008
Ms. Sjene Kendrick teaches with Ms. Saffady in the 1st grade Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) class. Before joining us as a teacher at PS 8, she worked in upstate New York as a paraprofessional, attending to students with autism and other disabilities. She has an M.A. in Inclusive Education from Nazareth University and a B.S. in Psychology, with a minor in American Sign Language, from the University of Rochester.
Ms. Kendrick most enjoys seeing her students have “ah ha!” moments – when their eyes light up as they grasp a concept for the first time. She also loves the end of a school year when she can look back and see how far her students have come. “It’s amazing the progress in just 10 months,” she says. Teaching at PS 8 has been a particular joy because “the staff is so helpful and considerate, especially at my grade level,” she says. “We are all out to help each other.”
Ms. Kendrick is an avid athlete who enjoys playing flag football and softball. One of her many softball teams even competed for a national championship in Philadelphia in 2011. Ms Kendrick also volunteers as a basketball coach for the Brooklyn Youth Association.
