Mackenzie Field

1st Grade
At PS 8 since 2011

Mackenzie Field taught for six years – five as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and one as a third grade teacher in Georgia – before coming to PS 8. She grew up in Syracuse, but moved to Georgia as a high school student and stayed there to attend undergraduate school at the University of Georgia, where she received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and minored in Spanish. As such, she carries dual allegiance: Go Dawgs! Go Orangemen! In 2009, Ms Field earned a Master’s degree in Literacy from Hunter College.

Ms. Field particularly enjoys teaching first grade. “This is the year when a lot of students make that connection between phonemic awareness and phonics and they really begin reading,” she says. “So many skills blossom in first grade.”

Ms. Field makes her home in Prospect Heights where she enjoys running, baking and (naturally) watching college football.
