This website is one of the primary ways that PS 8 and the PTA communicates with our parents, teachers, staff, students and community. However, there are other tools that we use and rely on to communicate as best we can. This page and description will hopefully explain these different tools to help avoid confusion and help you get the information you need most effectively.
Public Website
http://ps8brooklyn.org
This website is open to PS 8 parents, teachers, staff, students, community and the public at large. It contains information about our school, our staff, the PTA, the curriculum, our schedule, etc. This is the primary place where we share information about upcoming events and news. There are also two other “domains” (ps8pta.org and ps8nyc.org) that also “point” to this website, but we’re in the process of phasing them out. For the time-being you may see them in use, but soon they will “redirect” to ps8brooklyn.org and eventually we’ll stop using them altogether.
SchoolHub
http://ps8.ourschoolhub.com
SchoolHub is a private website that only parents, students and staff can access. It is not open to the public and is used to store somewhat sensitive information like the student and parent directories. We may also store additional information here in the future like budgets, meeting minutes, etc. To access this site, you need a userid and password. If you don’t have a userid and password, you can sign-up at: http://ps8.ourschoolhub.com/users/signup. In addition to hosting content, SchoolHub is also used to send email from the principal, parent coordinator and the PTA. If you’d prefer not to receive this email or would like to change your email preferences, you can do so by logging into SchoolHub and clicking on your name in the left-hand column.
MailChimp
MailChimp is a 3rd party tool that we occasionally use to send feature rich (HTML) email about upcoming fundraisers, events like the Family Dance as well as the weekly newsletter (Upd8). The recipients of this email are all the parents, staff and students who are registered in SchoolHub. You can opt-out of receiving email from MailChimp by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by going to http://ps8brooklyn.org/unsubscribe. This will prevent future email from MailChimp, but you’ll still get email from SchoolHub. To stop SchoolHub email, you can manage your email preferences in SchoolHub as explained above.
